4th Workshop on Security & Stability in the Mediterranean and the Middle East

(Athens, 19-21 November 2020)

This Workshop is organized by the Institute of International Economic Relations (IIER/IDOS) of Athens in collaboration with:

  • University of Catania, Italy

  • Department of International Relations, Yasar University, Turkey

  • Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean (Rhodes), Greece

  • Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain

  • ARAID/Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain

 

The general topics of the Workshop will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Security in the Mediterranean and the Broader Middle East
2. Migration, Refugee Crisis and Human Security in the Mediterranean and the Middle East
3. The present and future of Euro-Mediterranean relations

The workshop will be held in English.

STELIOS STAVRIDIS

 

During January-June 2019, he was a (non-resident) Visiting Researcher at the Department of Political Science & International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese, which is located in Corinth.

 

In April he spent several days there:

* he contributed to the teaching of the MA in Mediterranean Studies with 6 hours on various topics covering “Parliamentary diplomacy in the Mediterranean” (19-20 April) [in English]; this Master course is organized in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Heritage and the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Bologna (Italy), the Inalco – Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO) of the Université Sorbonne Paris Cité (France), the Department of International Relations of the Yaşar University (Turkey), the Department of Economics and Finance of the Neapolis University of Pafos (Cyprus), and the Olympia Summer Academy.

* he also gave a lecture on “Parliamentary diplomacy and the European Union”, to the "Πανεπιστήμιο της Κοινωνίας", also at the University of the Peloponnese (17 April) [in Greek]. This is a series of dedicated lectures for the civil society of Corinth which is taught in the evenings (lifelong learning).

 

During the month of March 2019, he was a resident Visiting Professor at Sciences-Po Lyon where he taught a 20-hour long undergraduate course on “The Europeanization of national foreign policies” [in English].

 

Stelios Stavridis also participated in the following events:

 

  • As a Speaker at the Round Table discussion on The Europeanization of Greece: myth or reality?, organized by Webster University-Athens Campus, the Institute of International Economic Relations/IDOS (Athens), The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Governance of the University of the Peloponnese (Corinth), and ARAID/University of Zaragoza - that was held on 28 February in Athens [in English].

 

  • As a Speaker at the Round Table discussion on Parliamentary diplomacy and the EU, organized by ELIAMEP & IDOS/Institute of International Economic Relations as part of their Seminar Series on the forthcoming 2019 Euro-elections - that was held on 23 April in Athens [in Greek].

Natalia Vera participated as an invited speaker to the following events:

  • Session Sustainability within the international conference Change the Change organised by the Government of the Basque Country on 6-8 March 2019, San Sebastian, Spain.

  • Regions and Cities making the SDGs happen organised by the EU Committee of the Regions in Brussels, Belgium, on 11 April 2019.

  • Managing the Transition to a Climate-neutral Economy hosted by the OECD in collaboration with the EU European Commission on 17 May 2019, Paris, France.

 

She also facilitated the Annual General Assembly Meeting of Regions4 on 4-5 March 2019, Bilbao, Spain, where she conducted political and technical meetings with 20 regions from 12 countries and four continents.

El Grupo de Investigación ZEIS de la Universidad de Zaragoza continúa con sus esfuerzos en la promoción de las RR.II. como disciplina académica autónoma, algo que existe en muchos países, en particular anglo-sajones pero también escandinavos o latinoamericanos. El año próximo se celebrará el primer centenario de la primera cátedra de RR.II. en el mundo que fue inaugurada en la Universidad de Aberystwyth en 1919.

 

En esta perspectiva, Stelios Stavridis, investigador senior ARAID y miembro del ZEIS:

 

(1) moderó el 14 de marzo de 2018 un Diálogo organizado por la Fundación Manuel Giménez Abad sobre "ELECCIONES PRESIDENCIALES RUSAS Y REAPERTURA DEL DIÁLOGO PARLAMENTARIO UE-RUSIA" que contó con la participación de Fernando Garcés de los Fayos, Analista de políticas exteriores del Parlamento Europeo (Bruselas) y de Nicolás de Pedro, Investigador Principal en CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs).

 

(2)  participó como ponente en la Jornada organizada el 10 de mayo de 2018 por la Fundación Manuel Giménez Abad y el Real Instituto Elcano (Madrid) sobre "LOS PARLAMENTOS EN LAS RELACIONES INTERNACIONALES", en las cuales también participaron Ana Carmona, Catedrática de Derecho Constitucional de la Universidad de Sevilla, Ignacio Molina, Investigador principal del Real Instituto Elcano, y Jorge Villarino, Ex-Director de Relaciones Internacionales en el Congreso de los Diputados y Letrado de las Cortes Generales. Una de las sesiones la moderó otro miembro de ZEIS, Mario Koëlling, UNED.
